Best Small Shops nominee Pennine Cycles once again commended with award

Posted on in Business News , Cycles News

PenninePennine Cycles Cycles, shortlisted last year for two awards in the Best Small Shops competition, have now been nominated in the BikeBiz Awards

The cycling industry has changed dramatically over recent years, particularly with the rise of the internet redefining how consumers make purchases. But bike shops will always be needed to offer expert advice and personal service to customers, and one store that has been leading the way in Bradford is Pennine Cycles, which has been owned by Paul and Sandra Corcoran for the last 21 years.

In addition to their latest BikeBizAwards nomination, Sandra Corcoran was also shortlisted last year for BikeBiz Woman of the Year at the 2020, is designed to celebrate any woman who has made a marked impact in the cycle industry over the last year. "It was amazing and meant the world to me," Corcoran says on receiving the nomination. "It was exciting in these strange times."

Pennine Cycles specialises in road bikes but sells all bikes including children's, hybrids and BMXs as well as cycling accessories and apparel. It was established in 1946 and is also the manufacturer of the Pennine frameset, a steel, hand-built road frame custom-made to each customer's individual specification. The shop also includes a cycling gallery with lots of memorabilia. Staff are on hand to provide advice and share their knowledge.

In her interview last year for the Best Small Shops competition late last year, director Sandra Corcoran explained "We are passionate about cycling, we want to ensure people have a bike which fits them and is safe, not just sell them what we have in stock. Many of our customers have become friends due to the cycling connection made in our shop. We have built an engaged community both on and offline of cycling fans."

In addition to the main Best Small Shops award, Pennine Cycles was also commended for a special award to be given to the independent retailer that has demonstrated specific innovation to combat the impact of COVID-19. This award is sponsored by booost, the loyalty, gifting and promotions app.

Pennine Cycles and two other shops also appeared on Sky News' Ian King show in support of the Best Small Shops Competition 2020 shortlist announcement! You can watch the full interview for this here.
