Women get on their bikes for the Brilliant Big Breeze Bike Ride

Posted on in Cycles News

Last weekend hundreds of women across the country donned their helmets and took part in the annual Big Breeze Bike Ride.

For the second year in a row, the Breeze network was proud to have provided the biggest number of bike riding opportunities over a single weekend. Thanks to their amazing Breeze champions, the total stands at over 130 bike rides.

The two flagship events in Hull and Bradford saw hundreds of women mix cycling with heaps of free entertainment for all the family, where Divas on Wheels and the Dartmoor classic represented the more competitive side of women's cycling.

Natalie Justice, Breeze Project Manager said: "What a wonderful weekend of cycling! It's been great to see so many women taking part in the Big Breeze Bike Ride. We knew when we launched it last year it was a pretty special event but to see all the pictures come through with smiles on, just brings it all to life. Over 130 rides took place and I'd like to say a big thank you and well done to all our Breeze champions who made this possible. We really feel that we're helping raise the profile of women's cycling across the UK."

As part of the commitment to help more women get on their bikes, ACT and British Cycling teamed up last year to promote Female Friendly Bike Shops.

The aim of the Female Friendly Bike Shop network is to recognise those retailers that offer a great service to women and help more women to find a local shop that they can feel confident and comfortable in.

Over 320 shops are already being promoted as Female Friendly. As the number of female cyclists continues to grow, why not welcome them into your shop by promoting yourself as a Female Friendly Bike Shop?

Become a Female Friendly Bike Shop

Recognition as a female friendly shop means you will benefit from national promotion on The Cycling Experts as well as promotion within the rapidly growing network of participants and volunteers of the Breeze network.

You can see the current list of Female Friendly bike shops here.

If you agree with all the statements below then you could qualify as a female friendly bike shop.

  1. We offer a selection of bikes suitable for women
  2. We offer advice and access to a range of women's cycling clothing
  3. We offer advice and access to a range of stock to support family riding
  4. We offer advice and services for correct bike selection, sizing and set-up
  5. We promote local cycling opportunities e.g. women's bike rides
  6. We have public liability insurance

If you think you qualify please fill out the form at the bottom of this page and a Breeze representative will be in touch.

All businesses that are listed as a female friendly bike shop on The Cycling Experts will have been contacted by the Breeze Network to ensure criteria is met and standards are maintained. In the case of any dispute regarding a shops status as female friendly, The Breeze Network's decision will be final.
