Downhill Bike

Downhill mountain bikes are constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible. Standard mountain bike features like suspension and disc brakes are tested to their limits on gnarly steep courses featuring roots, rocks, jumps and enormous drops at jaw dropping high speed.

These bikes are designed to soak up whatever their riders can throw at them, which means that they are very strong and extremely complaint thanks to 180-200mm+ of suspension travel front and rear. They usually feature 26 inch wheels which provide manoeuvrability and strength. Cutting edge suspension pivot designs, brake callipers with next-generation cooling fins and new super-durable hub designs are tested here first, but this tech does not come cheap.

Downhill bikes are also very specialist; the clue is in the name. Because of the many features and clever engineering of these machines they are often incredibly heavy, pedalling on flat ground results in more up and down than forward motion, and because of the incredibly slack head angle they are nigh-on-impossible to ride up hills.
