Cycle to Work Day back for sixth year

Posted on in Business News , Cycles News

Run by Cyclescheme, Cycle to Work Day aims to get more people out of their cars and on their bikes.

Returning for its sixth year, Cycle to Work Day will take place on Wednesday 15th August 2018.

Over 2 million collective miles have been ridden by commuters on Cycle to Work Day since it began in 2012. Both employers and employees are being encouraged to spread the word to their colleagues who might be apprehensive about cycle commuting... accessibility, affordability and fun are the big reasons of course, and with any luck those who get on their bikes for the first time on the day can stick to their healthier habit.

cycling in the cityCyclescheme have also partnered with Cannondale and Specialized for this year's event, offering a £30 reward voucher to anyone who buys a bike priced at £500 or more until the 31st August.

The annual event invites employers as well as individuals to sign up and reap the potential benefits of active commuting including increased workplace productivity, lower rates of sick leave and improved wellbeing.

Employers of all sizes across the UK with or without a cycle to work scheme in place can get behind the event.

Research from Cyclescheme shows that cycling to work can have benefits for the workplace, with 45% of the surveyed employees who cycle experiencing less stress at work, and 47% citing improvements to mental wellbeing.

In addition, commuters who regularly cycle can suffer less from illness and take fewer sick days and can save the economy an estimated £83 million each year according to a Cycling UK.
