Encouraging walking, cycling and public transport in London

The first ‘Ultra Low Emission Zone' (ULEZ) signs go up in London to encourage walking, cycling and the use of public transport.
Transport for London (TfL) has begun the process of installing more the 300 ULEZ warning signs across central London, in advance of the new zone starting in 2019. The signs, being installed at the same locations as existing Congestion Charge signs, warn the drivers to ensure that their vehicles meet the new emission standards coming into effect.
London's public health is in crisis and the introduction of ULEZ's will encourage people to opt for vehicles that emit fewer pollutants or walk, cycle and use public transport.
According to Bike Biz, the toxic air in London affects all Londoners and causes 9,000 premature deaths every year, reducing the quality of life for thousands.
What does this mean for you?
London will become a more pedestrian and public transport friendly city over the course of the next few years. This is not just from the introduction of ULEZ's but the money and focus from the Government into public safety and the environment.
The Government is also in the process of reviewing the National Cycle Network across the South of England. This was triggered by insight into the underperformance of routes and paths, caused by traffic safety, surface, signage and flow.
As the New Year is approaching the Government is calling for more investment into the safety, accessibility and inclusivity of cities in the South.
Cycling is becoming more and more popular as it is, opening itself up to wider communities in the cities.

Roads and paths will be made more structurally sound for cycling and cycling around the cities will be made easier and safer.
