MOTIV8 / Bicycle Recycling

JOB TITLE: Bicycle Mechanic/Driver

RESPONSIBLE TO: Bicycle Recycling Coordinator

RESPONSIBLE FOR: Duties as detailed below

PURPOSE OF JOB: The repair, maintenance and sale of bikes alongside the collection and movement of bikes across Portsmouth. 

Bicycle Recycling is all about providing training and real job opportunities for young people through a modern vibrant business, wholly owned by youth charity, Motiv8. Bicycle Recycling offers 3 core functions; a) Recycling and Sales, b) Servicing and Repairs and c) Training in cycle maintenance. 

We are looking for the following individual to be involved in an exciting new opportunity:

Bicycle Mechanic Driver, based in Portsmouth

£15,827 - £17,869 pro rata per annum (depending on skills, qualifications and experience),

25 hours/week working 5 days in 7

Fixed term contract to 30 September 2020 with potential to be made permanent 

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

  • To repair, check and service bikes to an agreed quality and standard
  • To operate with pre-defined systems keeping accurate records
  • To provide collection and delivery of bikes across Portsmouth
  • To monitor and ensure that a workshop inventory is kept up to date
  • To take responsibility for all equipment and tools and ensure these are stored safely and appropriately
  • To work with young people, partners and community groups to promote cycling and bike maintenance training opportunities
  • To provide an off-site service of safety checks and repairs in a variety of settings
  • To support events with schools, colleges and other appropriate organisations to promote bicycle recycling and its activities
  • To staff stands at community, trade and public events
  • To be customer service orientated at all times
  • To ensure good housekeeping of all work areas is maintained. 

GENERAL DUTIES:

  • To work within the policies and procedures of MOTIV8 & Bicycle Recycling.
  • To contribute to the general administration of the business.
  • To take responsibility for the health and safety of yourself and others.
  • To undertake any other duties as reasonably required in line with the individuals capabilities.
  • To undertake flexible working with occasional work outside contracted/core hours.

  • To maintain confidentiality at all times with MOTIV8 Policies and Procedures.
  • To attend meetings as required.
  • To maintain monitoring and recording systems and to supply managers with relevant information.

  • To work towards building and developing MOTIV8 & Bicycle Recycling's services.
  • To be responsible for personal and professional development, attending training as required to ensure skills are kept up to date.
  • To actively pursue routes available for the development and improvement of MOTIV8 & Bicycle Recycling's standards and services.

Skills/Experience Required

 

Essential/ Desirable

Experience

 

Extensive previous knowledge in a busy bike shop, workshop or similar

Experience and confidence in driving a van (LWB transit size)

Knowledge

 

Technical knowledge in bike maintenance and repair

E

Qualifications

 

Recognised third party qualification in bike maintenance

Level 2 or equivalent

Clean driving licence
