Nokia backs Bike Week
26 Mar 2008
Bike Week is delighted to announce Nokia as headline sponsor to support this year's mission to ‘Free the Family'.
With a fresh new brand and website, Bike Week (14-22 June) is challenging families to get out of their cars, step away from the TV and get on their bikes.
Nokia's latest mobile devices will help Bike Week make cycling more accessible and enjoyable than ever. With built in GPS tracking, pre-loaded maps and voice-guided navigation they allow both new and experienced cyclists to confidently plan trips, explore new routes, or simply find the quickest way from A to B, meaning more freedom without any guesswork.
And for those keen to keep fit, Nokia's Sports Tracker application lets users track their speed, distance and time, as well as monitor real-time body metrics such as pulse-rate.
Philip Darnton, Chair of Cycling England, said: "Plenty of parents have forgotten how much fun cycling was as a child. We want this year's Bike Week to revive those memories and re-engage people with the benefits and enjoyment of cycling. We hope that taking part in a Bike Week event will act as a catalyst for people to cycle more regularly and enjoy the long term benefits of a healthier lifestyle."
Simon Ainslie, Nokia's UK Managing Director, added: "Nokia's support for Bike Week is based on demonstrating how our latest technology can help encourage people to get out of their cars and onto their bikes without worrying about getting lost or how to get there."
Bike Week is encouraging everyone taking part to raise money for its official charity, Sport Relief, so that everyone will be able to get active, have fun, and help turn someone's life around while they're at it.
Karl Reynolds, Head of Fundraising at Sport Relief, said: "We are thrilled to join the Bike Week team and hope that everyone who participates will raise as much as they can - every penny can help to change lives for the better in the UK and in some of the poorest countries in the world"
