Beware who sets-up your childs bike
10 Jul 2008
Take a look at the image below. See anything wrong? Look at the front brake.
Don't worry if you can't spot it, you're not supposed to be an expert. That's the job of the people selling the bike. Well, apparently that's their job. Find out more below
In case you don't know the front brake on this child's bike has been fitted the wrong way round. It should be on the front of the fork, not the back.
In its current position the brake will not work properly, which is a bit of a problem if your say 5 years old in your local park or street. The child riding this particular model will also find steering particular difficult as the brake cable will restrict full movement of the handlebars and front wheel.
Because this bike will be sold in a box the person assembling it at home may have no idea that the brake is not fitted correctly.
The person who built this bike probably has little or no experience in bike maintenance and almost certainly no recognised Cytech qualifications. If a child's bike is set-up like this its pretty safe to say other adult bikes are too.
This image was presented to a local bike shop owner by a mum hoping to get this bike for their daughter. It comes from the catalogue of a very popular high street retailer.
